Holy Cross School

Challenging. Creating. Caring.

Holy Cross School is nestled on a beautifully landscaped nine-acre campus in the heart of Garrett Park, Maryland. The school opened in 1961 soon after the founding of Holy Cross Catholic Parish. Today our school serves residents of Montgomery County and the District of Columbia and continues its tradition of academic excellence, spiritual development, and service to the community.

Holy Cross School has an internationally diverse, co-ed student body in Pre-Kindergarten through Eighth grade. The school is fully accredited by AdvancED and is a 2013 National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. In addition, Holy Cross holds membership in the National Catholic Education Association, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, and the International Society for Technology in Education.

At Holy Cross, children receive an education that nurtures the spirit as well as the mind.

At Holy Cross, the Gospel values are modeled and woven into the fabric of each school day. Faith development is rooted in Christian principles and Catholic beliefs and traditions. Faculty and students begin and end each day with prayer. In addition, staff and students pray and give thanks before and after each lunch period. Students regularly attend mass and take leadership roles as altar servers, lectors, and readers in our church services.

Holy Cross students are challenged to achieve excellence. We believe in small class sizes and a rigorous curriculum that is exciting and rewarding to students.  We believe in an inclusive environment and provide appropriate resources to meet the needs of all learners. We educate the whole person by complementing the core subjects with physical education, music, art, and Spanish. School leadership and faculty continuously evaluate and improve the curriculum to maintain the highest standards. Holy Cross students are consistently accepted into numerous private high schools; most receive academic scholarships and place into honors and scholars programs. The Class of 2017 earned over $315,000 in academic scholarships.

The Holy Cross community practices the Gospel message to "Love one another" through many acts of service throughout the year. Students collect food to make Thanksgiving baskets for local families in need. School families collaborate with the parish Social Concerns Committee on monthly food and clothing drives and participate in an annual Giving Tree project at Christmas. In addition, students make 1,000 meals each year to benefit Cup O’ Joe, an organization that serves the homeless in Washington, DC. Holy Cross students participate in other charitable endeavors such as Hoops for Hearts to raise heart health awareness and funds for the American Heart Association.
