Admissions Policy
Students of any race, creed, or ethnic origin are admitted to Holy Cross School's educational program, providing they meet the academic requirements. Equal opportunity is also given to physically challenged students provided that, with reasonable accommodation, the student can function in the school. Preference is given to Catholic students. Registration forms are available upon request. A copy of the baptismal certificate is required for Catholic children and must be brought in to the office; for non-Catholics, a birth certificate is sufficient. A registration fee is collected and appropriate forms are given to parents to complete.
Interested parents should:
- Call the school office to receive an information packet.
- Attend one of our Open Houses on November 11, January 31, or February 2.
At the time of registration, parents are asked
to bring in the following items:
- Birth Certificate (Non-Catholics)
- Baptismal Certificate (Catholics)
- Academic records (2 years of report cards & state testing results) for transfer students
- Registration form and non-refundable registration fee
Students are accepted under the following criteria:
- Holy Cross Parishioners with enrolled siblings*
- Holy Cross Parishioners*
- Non-Parishioner Catholics with enrolled siblings
- Non-Parishioner Catholics
- Non-Catholics with enrolled siblings
- Non-Catholics
Criteria to be considered a Parishioner: Must be registered in the Parish, attend Mass at Holy Cross, and participate in the Stewardship Program.
At the close of the enrollment time period (last Friday in February), each application will be reviewed and sorted based upon the criteria.
Admission to the Holy Cross Pre-Kindergarten Program does not guarantee enrollment in our Kindergarten Class. However, children registered in our Kindergarten are ensured a slot in Grade One.
Students entering Holy Cross School are tested prior to admission to determine class eligibility. The Principal will advise the parents of the applicants of the testing dates.
The Archdiocese of Washington follows the guidelines of the State of Maryland for students entering Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten, respectively. Holy Cross uses the Early Prevention of School Failure screening program together with student and parent interviews to assist us in making an appropriate enrollment decision with regard to admittance to our Kindergarten Program.
Permanent records from the student's previous school are required, including medical and immunization forms. No student may attend class until these records have been received and the tuition and student fee are paid. A tuberculosis test is required for all incoming students from another country. New students usually are not accepted in Grade 7 or 8 unless the student is transferring from another Catholic school or is a new parishioner.
Parents will receive a letter from the Principal in the summer detailing school information for the upcoming school year.
Immunization records are required for all children entering our school in Pre-Kindergarten
through Grade 8.
