About Holy Cross

Welcome go to top

Holy Cross School is a parochial school in the Archdiocese of Washington.  It opened its doors in 1961 after the establishment of Holy Cross Parish.  Today our school serves the broader Montgomery County community continuing in its tradition of academic excellence and spiritual development.

The school is fully accredited by the Middle States Association of Elementary Schools.  Holy Cross also holds membership in the National Catholic Education Association as well as the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development and the International Society for Technology in Education.

We strive to empower each child to develop a healthy self-image within a warm, loving Christian environment embedded in Catholic Tradition.

We believe that parents, the first and foremost educators of their children, and the teachers should work together in a partnership that is both positive and cooperative.  Therefore, as our students learn and develop, we believe that parental involvement is crucial for their success.

Vision go to top

Holy Cross School is a student-centered learning community committed to academic excellence and the development of strong characters embedded in the Gospel values and Catholic Tradition. By diversifying the curriculum to encompass authentic learning experiences, we will effectively meet the needs and learning styles of children from varied backgrounds and ethnic groups.

Digital literacy and the attainment of higher levels of thinking will be the enablers and gatekeepers that will empower the students to become active players in their education.

Mission Statement go to top

At Holy Cross Elementary School, a faith-sharing community, we seek to worship God and celebrate the Good News of Jesus Christ by living lives rooted in the Gospel values. This is accomplished through daily communal prayer, thoughtfully planned liturgies, and Christian service. With respect and reverence for all, the community regularly reaches out to the less fortunate in an effort to increase student awareness of our responsibility to bring Christ's presence to others.

The faculty acknowledges parents as the primary educators of their children and strives to work in conjunction with them to develop each child's unique gifts and strengths. We are committed to developing the whole child in concert with each individual's talents, interests, and abilities by providing a well-balanced curriculum and an innovative technology program. Since the Information and Communication Ages by their very nature have radically altered our concept of education, it is the aspiration of the administration and the faculty to empower all students to become competent life-long learners who will provide responsible, moral, and global leadership now and for future generations.
